Clearing the Way for Satellite TV Reception

Hello, Danielle Wagner here, back again to tell you another humorous tale about the calls I receive as a Dish TV Representative. I have to say, each day that passes I never cease to be amazed by the types of satellite calls I receive. This tale, in particular, is a real laugh.

About three weeks ago, I had a frantic woman call in while I was working.

“Hello, this is Danielle with Dish TV, how can I assist you with your satellite service?”

“Oh, you can help me all right,” an irate woman sneered from the other end of the phone.

“I’m sorry, Ma’am,” I said, “is there a problem with your satellite TV service?”

“Nope, not anymore.” She snipped.

“Ma’am, I’m sorry, I don’t think I understand—“she cut me off before I could finish.

“Tell me something, do you happen to have a good landscaper you can send over here?”

“Landscaper?”

“Yes. You see, since a Dish Network technician was out here last week and informed my husband that it wouldn’t be possible to have satellite service hooked up unless there was a clear line of site for the satellite, my husband has decided to chop down every single tree in our yard!”

I tried hard not to laugh. She continued to inform me that her husband was so excited about the deals offered by Dish Network that he would allow nothing to stop him from receiving service, including the 8 trees he cut down.

Unfortunately, I had to inform her that we weren’t in the landscaping business, but that we could send a technician over to install the satellite TV dish. Needless to say, her husband was the only happy customer that day.

Dish Network was offering free installation!

When my wife says that I shouldn’t try to fix things around the house, it’s more than just a suggestion - she means it. I started putting together my son’s crib in my wife’s first trimester. It lay in pieces on the floor until a week after my son came home from the hospital. My mother-in-law was the one who finally put it together.

Needless to say, when I told my wife I wanted to order cable through Dish Network, she simply pointed out that my mother-in-law wasn’t in town to hook everything up. I couldn’t argue with that. I knew I couldn’t figure out where to hook up all the wires and cables and plugs for the boxes and then set up the remote control. No way. So I sat back and waited for my mother-in-law to call.

When my wife told me that Dish Network was offering free installation, I couldn’t believe it. She said that as long as I didn’t order any extra sports channels, I could go ahead and order it. I couldn’t dial the phone fast enough. If I didn’t have to install the equipment, there was nothing that could keep me from it. The prices are low, there’s a discount the first few months, and they have a ton of great movie packages and a sports package as well. And thanks to Dish Network, I can have all this without having to deal with my mother-in-law.

Of course I also ordered the Sports Package. Don’t tell my wife.

Television on Demand

With the dawning of new technology every day, there is no need for anyone to be subservient slaves to television programmers anymore. What are those guys thinking anyway? Don’t they realize that they are constantly putting two television shows on at the same time that we want to watch? Don’t they realize that they are melting families and relationships of all kinds down to bitter arguing over which television show to watch that night? Well, with the dawn of television on demand and digital recording satellite receivers, the glory days of the sadistic television programmer are nearly at an end.

Today, you can purchase a digital recording satellite receiver. Depending on the model you purchase, there are a variety of options to make your television viewing habits easier on you and your family. There are products such as TiVo and other single- and dual-mode tuner receivers.

In single mode, two tuners allow you to record two shows at the same time or watch one show while recording another show, no more choosing between shows. In dual mode, the tuners allow you to watch two different programs on two different television sets. This is television the way it’s supposed to be-what you want, and when you want it!

There are those of us who are superiorly ‘addicted’ to one television show, and there are plenty of times that we addicts sit glued to the television with our eyes watering because we have to go to the bathroom so bad, waiting for a commercial so we can go. Then there are movies-it’s a royal pain to miss a portion of a movie but we all have needs-another pop, some more popcorn or a bathroom break. With television on demand, you can actually pause live television feeds while you go to the bathroom or a snack, so that you don’t miss even one moment of the movie or show that you are watching. Then, when you return, you can play your movie or show right from where you left off.

Some movies and television shows have parts that are, well, plain boring! All we want to do is get past it to the good part. Well with television on demand, you can do just that. No more sitting through the boring parts of the show or movie, just fast forward to the action!

Commercials…some are worth watching and some just aren’t. It seems that there are repeated commercials within the show you’re watching, and even at times repeats during the same commercial break. Do you really want to watch that commercial a second time? No, probably not. With television on demand, you can fast forward through those repeat commercials with just the click of a button on your remote control.
Of course, there are commercials that we do want to see. If that’s the case, then you can rewind the commercial and get that phone number or address, or just the information again on the product that’s being advertised.

Television on demand is helping customers watch television the way they want to. It’s revolutionizing the way we all watch television. It’s new technology that actually makes our lives better and leaves an impact on the way we do everyday things, like watching television. The revolution is just what consumer’s were asking for, to help us help the television companies by going back to watching television stations and the million dollar shows they provide us.

Are you a sports fan? Have you ever been watching the game and then heard the announcer start talking about that amazing play? It’s very annoying when you missed the play as they don’t always rerun the play in slow motion, and often if they do, that annoying little red pen draws lines all over the screen to explain the play. Imagine that you could skip the red-pen drawn play replay and just rewind to the beginning of that awesome play you missed and watch it again. Then you can rewind it again and slow it down into slow motion, without the red pen, and watch the play in slow motion. Doesn’t that sound perfect?

Now picture this…you are at home cuddling with the one you love on the couch watching a movie. She leans over and whispers in your ear, “I think the butcher did it because he just hid that letter in the drawer.” You think, “He did what?” You must have missed it completely while you were staring into her deep brown eyes. Rats. Now, with television on demand, you can rewind to the part so you can see it too. No more missing important scenes in the movies! Just rewind and play again so you can see what you missed.

Think of the money you will save by owning television on demand just in renting and purchasing movies. Never again will you have to pay late fees at the video store because something came up and you forgot to return the movies you rented. You can record those great movies that run at 2 a.m. to watch the next evening.

Your family is going to love television on demand. If you have children, you can even restrict what types of television programming they can watch. Every show is embedded with information about the show, including its rating, and your satellite receiver reads that information. If you have the parental control restriction set on the satellite, your children won’t be able to watch anything with an adult rating, or whatever rating level you set. Now, you can trust that your children aren’t watching television that you would not approve of.

Television on demand is a wonderful invention, whether you are a family or a single person. There are many television networks that air a variety of sports shows catering to millions of sports fans in the comfort of their own homes. However, only satellite TV offers premiere sporting programs that are exclusive to subscribers only. Dish Network – Our Decision to Switch From Cable

We were playing poker with Al and Sue who live across the street, when we started talking about TV. Al had seen all those ads where the cable companies make fun of Satellite TV and say that it’s expensive, a nuisance, and unreliable. I told Al that there must be some reason why the cable companies were spending so much money to talk us all out of using Satellite TV systems - maybe they were afraid of the competition.

My wife Myrna started talking about the poor picture quality that sometimes comes with cable and mentioned that we were thinking of switching to this Dish Network system, which gave us both Satellite and a new digital type TV, which was supposed to be better than our old set. We bickered back and forth debating the topic, until Myrna and I won the pot and decided to call it a night, our winnings in hand.

The next day, we called Dish Network. It worked like a charm. Everything was included and installed for us and we didn’t have to worry about any of this new modern-type technology. We even got this new kind of recorder, a DVR, that lets us record programs without having to fumble around looking for blank videotape. It also lets us pause our favorite program if the phone rings or we want to make a snack. Later, we can start it right where it left off.

As for being reliable, last week there was big rainstorm and lots of wind. We sat inside, cozy as can be and watched our Dish Network TV. We laughed when we saw the poor postman across the way at Al and Sue’s delivering that big, fat cable bill.

Dish Network Prevents Access to Adult Programming

Dish Network Customer Service Rep Scott Z here, with another story from my customer service journals.

Adolescence can be quite an awkward time for most teens, and little Kenny from Little Rock, Arkansas certainly highlighted that for me. Although the situation may already be cliché for some, you don’t really realize the awkwardness until you have personally dealt with it.

Kenny called Dish customer service this afternoon and caught me a bit off-guard with a lot of compliments and praises regarding the service that they had been getting from Dish Network. His tone of voice sounded like he needed something but couldn’t get it across. So, I made my move.

“Thank you for patronizing Dish TV’s products and services Kenny. Is there anything else that I can do for you?” Alas, those were the magic words that gave little Kenny enough confidence to do what he called in to do.

He wanted to access adult channels without his parents knowing it. This kid shyly asked, “Will you be able to substitute it with some other service in our bill, like a sports channel or something?” I could sense a mixture of determination and desperation on his part, especially when he said he was envious of his friends.

Refraining from lecturing him on the immorality of letting a 13 or 14-year-old kid gain adult channel access without the consent of his parents, I did what I had to do. I gently reminded him that only the listed Satellite TV Subscribers (his parents) could request a change of programming.

Satellite TV Has Given Us The world of Entertainment!

Living in the country can certainly have its perks, the fresh air and beautiful scenery can make living in the country seem like living in a dream world. Nevertheless, all of the advents of modern technology are not always available to families that live in the country and unfortunately, my family was one of them.

Not only can I not get a high speed connection for my computer, but until the arrival of satellite TV, there were no cable television options available in our area. Why? The reason our family could not get cable connected was because there were no underground cables for cable in our town. With no underground cables to provide our house with cable, the doors of TV entertainment seemed permanently closed to our family.

You can’t possibly know how thrilled our family was to discover that satellite TV could bring us back into the modern world; with satellite television, our family was able to finally see all of the wonderful shows that only cable TV provides! Direct TV allowed our family to have cable in our home without the need for underground cable.

Instead, we now receive our cable via a satellite signal that is picked up by a small satellite dish on our roof! Thus, Direct TV helped us receive all of the benefits that every other cable customer has and reopened the doors to the world of TV entertainment! Finally, my children could watch all of their favorite cartoons, and I could watch all of my favorite movies without having to go to the movie theater or rent DVDs!

Satellite TV and My Kids

This is the information age, and unless you have been living under a rock for the last decade, you have noticed that part of the evolution of the information age is coming not just from the dawn of the Internet, but also in Satellite TV. It has been proven that kids learn from television and television shows. TV shows that are targeted towards your child’s are done with them in mind-how to keep their attention and get them to learn something. It’s not just all about Sesame Street anymore, there are hundreds of kids television programs from around the world that benefit kids with a variety of lessons, teachings and programs.

What are your kids watching on television? If you don’t have Satellite TV, your kids may be missing out on wonderful opportunities to learn from the programming that is available. With a Satellite television, you can access hundreds of stations from around the world that offer age-specific programming that targets your children.

No, I am not suggesting that your children watch TV non stop in place of education. However, Satellite TV can open new realms for your children, new worlds that they haven’t yet explored and even areas that you haven’t thought about teaching them yet. Cat's Tung Stuck to a Dish Network Dish

I’ll never forget the phone call I got last month while working as a satellite representative for Dish TV! I think it was one of the craziest phone calls I have ever received! In fact, I would definitely place it on the list that I have lovingly titled, “Danielle’s Top Ten List of Bizarre Satellite TV Calls”! Moreover, when I think about it, if Dish Network held a contest for the weirdest satellite calls ever received, this one phone call would surely be a winner!

An elderly woman called our toll free number in January. I introduced myself and asked how I could assist her with her satellite service. She was pretty upset when she said, “I need a satellite technician out here right away!”

Immediately, I asked her what the problem was and why she was so upset. I asked, “Are you out of service? Is there something wrong with your satellite TV signal? Perhaps it is something we can fix easily over the phone.”

She replied, “Oh, I don’t think so. I need a Dish Network technician to come here immediately. My cat got out of the house and got up on the roof. She licked the satellite dish and now her poor tongue is frozen to the dish! You must help my cat!”

Trying to keep from laughing because the image seemed rather funny at the time, I asked her if she had anyone who could get the cat down if I told her how. She advised me that her grandson was available. I told her to take a little warm water and pour it onto the cat’s tongue and that would release the cat’s tongue from its frozen state.

I waited on the line until she told me the task was accomplished. After thanking me a thousand times, I told her that it was no problem and advised her to keep her cat in the house from now on! She promised that she would!
